Now Why Didn't I Think of That?!?

Have you ever tried to have first graders sit in rows of 3 facing forward? I tried it *briefly* my first year teaching first grade. I found out the hard way that first graders move all day long and so did their desks
Where did my neat little rows go?
With 23 students this year, desk logistics have been a source of irritation. So, I decided to wrangle these desks into submission and take charge. Say hello to my new buddy, "Cabl E. Ties"!
You can even put a mark on the floor so students know exactly where to realign their rows. Now, why didn't I think of that!?! Thanks, Mr. Tie!

Ha! Love Mr. Cabl E. Ties! I do this too because sliding desks just drive me nuts!

Brilliant! Gosh, I need these. Seeing those little desks out of line irks me in a way it shouldn't. :)

Great idea! I am lucky that I still have tables, it's a lot easier to shove them back where they belong!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who use them for this reason! I feel so mean locking their desks together but it makes my life so much easier!

Haha it's not just first graders that have this problem. I see it all the way up through fifth. Everyday I straighten the desks before I leave a classroom. I hope this works!

This is my second year in 1st grade, but my 1st year with desks for my firsties. Let me just tell you, I was DREADING desks! My friend suggested zip ties (or cable ties as you call them). They have kept my sane this year!! I am so anal about my desks being kept straight. I did it at the beginning of the year before the kids even came. About 2 weeks ago I decided that we would move the desks. The kids suddenly stopped and said, "Mrs. Richardson...our desks are stuck together. We can't move them!" I couldn't help but laugh! Hope you enjoy the rest of your year!

I did this with my desks last year. One day we had a substitute and one of my students noticed that these things were one their desks. Anyway, they thought they would help out by cutting everyone of the zip ties off of the desks.

Love this! I have been so embarrassed over the years to admit that this drives me nuts. So happy to know I am not alone and others have the same issue. :)
